H.L. "Sonny" Callahan is among Mobile City Council District 7 candidate Stephen Hand's supporters, but the retired congressman takes a backseat to the Mobile Fire Fighters Association when it comes to the amount of the contribution.
Callahan's $100 donation pales in comparison to the fire fighter organization's $10,000 contribution to Hand's attempt to represent the northwest section of the city on the seven-member council.
City elections are set for Tuesday. Hand is among 7 contenders to win the seat now held by City Councilman John Peavy who is running for mayor. The other District 7 candidates are Gina Gregory,Eddie Burrow, Shane McBryde, Mead MillerHenry Slade and Robert W. Pitts, Jr.
Candidates are required to report their campaign's financial activities within five to 10 days before the election.
Hand's campaign raised $17,120 in cash contributions. The campaign spent $12,304.05 and ended the period with a balance of $4,815.95.
