I-10 bridge meeting set Monday

The Propeller Club of Mobile will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the International Trade Club downtown to discuss various routes under consideration for a new I-10 bridge over Mobile River.

Marsha Anderson Bomar, president of Street Smarts, a transportation planning and engineering consulting firm engaged by Keep Mobile Moving, is scheduled to speak.

Organizers bill the session as "critical to the Mobile maritime community and others."

Transportation officials are nearing a decision on a route for the multi-million dollar bridge to relieve traffic congestion on I-10 caused by a bottleneck at the Wallace Tunnel in downtown Mobile. Eleven of the originally 14 proposed routes have been eliminated, leaving three alternate routes all crossing mid-river. Various interests -- maritime, downtown redevelopment, cruise terminal and historic preservationists -- all have expressed reservations about the bridge's location.

The meeting is open to the public. Admission is free. Seating is limited. Reservations are recommended. Call 438-5240. The trade center is located at 250 North Water St.
