Burrell announces run
for mayor of Fairhope
FAIRHOPE, Ala. – Fairhope resident Jack Burrell today officially announced his candidacy for the office of mayor of Fairhope.
In a press release late Thursday afternoon, Burrell said that he wants to re-energize the municipal government with practical, business-minded leadership, and open the lines of communication among the mayor, city officials and the citizens of Fairhope.
“I am excited about the future of Fairhope and I want to be a greater part of it,” said Burrell. “We need to consider practical solutions to help our local government operate more efficiently, while restoring a renewed sense of economic stability.”
Incumbent Mayor Tim Kant is seeking re-election to the post.
While he said he recognized several other areas that need addressing, Burrell pointed to fiscal responsibility, open and honest government, and properly managed growth as the Fairhope's leading goals.
“I think most Fairhope residents would agree that we need to seriously explore how best to manage the city’s revenue and expenses, as well as, how we are going to reduce the city's more than 45 million dollars of debt,” said the 43-year-old Burrell.
“I also know how important it is to the citizens of Fairhope to have and follow a comprehensive plan regarding the growth of the city,” he continued. “There are ways to preserve the uniqueness, beauty and rich history of Fairhope while still allowing for managed growth to stimulate the local economy.”
The Burrell campaign is off to a solid financial start, according to campaign officials, citing "thousands of dollars in contributions prior to any serious fundraising efforts or events, many of which are currently planned."
The election for mayor is set Aug. 26.
