New Saltwater Fishing car tag approved
to preserve Alabama’s marine resources
A new “Saltwater Fishing License Plate” is now being offered at county courthouses across the state that is intended to generate additional revenue to protect marine resources on Alabama’s coast.
The cost to pre-register for the tag is $50, with $42 from the total sale of the tag being paid to the Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama (CCA Alabama) to be used for coastal conservation and educational campaigns.
However, before tags can be issued and printed, 1,000 pre-commitments must register by May 31, 2009. If 1,000 tags are not sold, all tag purchasers will be refunded the full payment for their tag.
CCA Alabama is entering the first 1,000 people to pre-register for the tag before May 31 in a complementary drawing for a brand new Blazer Bay Boat and trailer powered by a Yamaha 115 hp Four Stroke. Those buying a fleet of tags will be entered in the complementary drawing with each tag purchased.
The boat is being donated by Bluewater Yacht Sales, Blazer Bay Boats and Yamaha in support of Alabama’s new saltwater fishing tag and in hopes of increasing tag sales.
Members of the Coastal Conservation Association of Alabama, Forrest Long, president of Bluewater Yacht Sales, Dr. Bob Shipp, chair and professor of Marine Sciences Division, University of South Alabama, are set this morning to discuss the importance of Alabama’s new saltwater fishing license plate. The program will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Bluewater Yacht Sales, 116 E. I-65 Service Rd. N. between Old Shell and Dauphin Street.
