This flick is an adaptation of Tolstoy's novel of the same name. It is about a vibrant 18-year-old woman who marries a much older 19th Century Russian aristocratic politician. One day she meets a handsome young Count, and, yes, you can guess the rest….what follows is a dangerous, tumultuous and passionate love affair set against a backdrop of a turbulent Russian political climate.
The film stars Keira Knightley and Jude Law, who do a great job of acting. It also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Matthew Macfadyen, Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Kelly Macdonald, Ruth Wilson, Olivia Williams, and Emily Watson. The acting is superb all the way around.
Joe Wright directed and did a great job. The cinematography was outstanding.
The movie was a classic Tolstoy story well done. We give it a two thumbs up!
(Editor's note: Jim and Carolyn Hasser's Dinner & a Movie is a brand new feature in Mobile Bay Times. Jim is an attorney in Mobile and Carolyn is a Realtor with Roberts Brothers.
