Judge Stuart C. Dubose slapped with 60-count ethics complaint

The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission this afternoon lodged a 60-count, 113-page complaint accusing Clarke County Circuit Judge Stuart C. Dubose of ethical misconduct.

Dubose, who has been embroiled in a spate of controversial matters both before and after winning a barnburner of an election in 2006, is reportedly suspended from the bench pending a resolution of the case.

Much of the complaint stems from Dubose's involvement as a private attorney in an estate dispute and a later condemnation squabble with Alabama Power Company.

A regular refrain throughout the complaint avers that Dubose's explanations of events to the JIC were "misrepresentations of fact."

The Mobile Bay Times has chronicled some of the Dubose saga in previous stories. (1, 2, 3)

Dubose has commented primarily through court filings in his various disputes. A message was left Thursday afternoon with his counsel Farley Moody of Calera, but the call was not immediately returned.

Dubose could be removed permanently from the bench if he is tried before the Court of the Judiciary which reaches a unanimous verdict against him.
