Guy Hunt Rest Stop dedication set

A ceremony dedicating the Guy Hunt Rest Stop at I-65 about 40 miles north of Birmingham will take place Thursday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m.

The ceremony will occur in or near the main building at the rest stop which is situated at mile marker 300.

The Alabama Legislature recented passed ACT 2006-309 naming this rest stop in honor of former Governor Guy Hunt. The act was sponsored by state Rep. Howard Sanderford of Huntsville.

Hunt was governor of Alabama from 1987-1993 and was instrumental in the construction of this rest stop that is now being named in his honor.

Hunt, a Cullman minister and farmer, was the first Republican governor in Alabama in modern times.
