History, fun and prizes combine at the Oakleigh House Museum on June 8, 5:30 to 8 p.m., when Historic Mobile Preservation Society celebrates its fourth annual Bravery and Beauty Mint Julep Party.
Tickets are $20 for Historic Mobile Preservation Society members; $25 for non-members, which includes admission to the party and one entry into the prize drawing. You do need to be present to win. Limit five tickets for $100 ($80 for HMPS members).
The evening commemorates the June 1877 visit of then-future U.S. President James Garfield to Mobile and Oakleigh. Gen. T.K. Irwin, Oakleigh’s owner, served Garfield a mint julep and Garfield later wrote about the occasion, saying that “the bravery and beauty of Mobile” were in attendance.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres and mint juleps will be served. The event will also feature a live auction of eclectic items including antiques, accessories and home decorating items. A drawing will be held for prizes including the following:
A Cozumel cruise for two on Carnival’s Holiday;
Two tickets to the Antiques Roadshow Preview Party with guest VIPS including Roadshow host Mark Wahlberg and appraisers at Oakleigh on July 7 and two tickets to the Roadshow on July 8.
Two tickets to Antiques Roadshow in Mobile on July 8.
