Finalists named for judge opening;

The three finalists to fill an impending vacancy on the Mobile County District Court bench are local attorneys Joe Basenberg, Jeff Beaverstock and Ed Blount.

Gov. Robert Bentley has 90 days to make the appointment.

The county's judicial selection committee Wednesday released its choices from among a field of 25 applicants who sought the judgeship.

The vacancy will be created at month's end with the retirement of Mobile County District Judge Charlie McKnight.

According to informed sources, Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran will not be a candidate to succeed Jo Bonner in the U.S. House of Representatives from Alabama's First Congressional District.

Alabama State Port Authority director and chief executive Jimmy Lyons announced Wednesday that Frank Fogarty has been named Vice President for Trade and Development.

“Mr. Fogarty extensive management experience in the port industry will enhance and expand the foundations laid in business development at the port,” said Lyons. Mr. Fogarty will lead the Authority’s international trade division and will be a key player in sales and marketing initiatives.

Fogarty possesses 38 years of professional experience in domestic and international trade, terminal operations and stevedoring in U.S. ports. Prior to joining the Authority, Fogarty served as senior vice president for sales and marketing at Ports America in Iselin, New Jersey. He is also the past vice president of P&O Ports North America in Houston, Texas.

Fogarty will assume his duties on June 3, 2013.

Fogarty, a native of Mobile, holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Alabama, and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Executive Development Program.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will be the special guest speaker at our 2013 Summer Dinner on Aug. 23 at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.

A prospective GOP presidential hopeful in 2016, Walker has gotten the attention of the nation as a result of the conservative policies that he has instituted in the normally liberal Democrat state of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin now has a number of high-ranking Republicans including U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (former 2012 GOP Vice Presidential candidate), U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Walker.

Elected governor in 2010, Walker was a pro-life candidate who overcame significant odds to claim victory.
